You can only buy one - which one

+1 for the Domino 700. I use it all the time, from external gates to drawers. I bought the Leigh jig years ago but have yet to use it on a proper job!

    Shooting Board

Derek, i have just read your treatise on shooting board planes & I’d like to thank you for such an informative and well written piece! The downside is that I can feel a trip to Veritas in my near future! Thanks

    Kitchen Unit Door problem

I did the same as baldkev, I cut a circle of timber using a hole saw and glued it to cover the old hole, which gave me a firm base for the new hole. Worked great!

Without Beer, People are Going to Find Out

I agree that the Channel 4 coverage was really good during the early years, as they cut out all the boring bits, explained the rules, and showed highlights of multiple games. However, as usual, some TV ‘expert’ interfered & changed the format to live games in the middle of the night & killed it...

    Harrogate woodworking show

I trekked over on Friday to meet up with my son. The traffic was nose to tail on the way in and the show was well attended. I too felt that there was a heavy wood turning emphasis. However, the demonstrations were very good & the real value is being able to meet & discuss with real people!

Here we go again with some curves

Brilliant post - really interesting! one question, if I may. Do you plan to mask the spin plate footings, or will further groundwork do that for you?

Amazon Alexa and smart plugs in workshop

I use remote control sockets from Amazon to control extraction. A single remote controls up to 3 (13A) sockets. Whilst not voice activated, they do not suffer the associated voice/noise conflict

    Mortiser or Domino

+1 for the Domino 700. I previously had a bench top Mortiser but the overheads exceeded the benefits, for my situation. I have the Domino 700, plus the Sennaca adapter for small jobs. It is quick & accurate, using dominos, or just cutting mortises for traditional tenons!

If I have to have socks for Christmas...

Engelbert-Strauss do great workwear, and I have just bought some of their very warm worksocks to complement their fleece lined work boots. Global warming has not yet reached my man cave! engelbert-strauss.co.uk/work-socks

    Planer Thicknesser advice.

The forum consensus shows that a thicknesser is an essential tool for any workshop. As a mere hobbyist, I firmly agree & went for the cost/capacity of the De Walt 733 (152mm max thick * 312mm max wide). I’ve seen them on eBay for £400. In terms of time saved, it is a no-brainier, and the cost...

    Britain's Best Woodworker

For me, the slavish adherence to the GBBO format is too much! 2 days is too short to do anything of quality, which leaves the purpose to be crises, stress & failure (tv jeopardy). My concern is when you add power tools/machinery to the mix. I’ll watch another one, as woodwork on mainstream tv...

A garden project for my better half.

An excellent project & first class outcome! Many thanks for taking the time & effort to document the project - you’ve made us all envious 😀

    Cast iron corrosion

+1 for ACF-50. I used it on planes, bandsaw, tablesaw etc before they all went into storage for 6 years (worked abroad). They came out as good as they went in! Needs good ventilation when used (as do most things)

External iroko - Osmo UV Oil or Sikkens Cetol Filter 7 Plus

+1 for RogerM's original posts, and likewise sereneblue, I have Osmo UV oil, but am now going to order sikkens based on those test results!

    Clamp recommendations

+1 for Bessey. I have never regretted buying them (just winced at the time) & now only buy Bessey. I bought a set of Rutland sash cramps some years ago, a complete waste of money - never again!
