    Juniper tree?

Thanks all for feedback. The deed is now done. A fun weekend with a stump grinder to remove the last of the evidence and it will be like it was never there. I salvaged a couple of decent straight sections. I suspect it may end up in the burner simply due to time pressures, but I'll deal the ends...

    Juniper tree?

Hi Suffolk Boy, Here's a few more photos - no sign of any berries/cones.

    Juniper tree?

Hi all, I've got what I believe is a Juniper tree in my back garden. Long story short, it's going to be coming down. a) Do we think it's a Juniper? b) Is there anything worthwhile to be done with Juniper wood (other than burning...) c) If there's anything to be done with it - what's the best...

    Workshop dehumidifier with HEPA filter

Thanks for your concern - it isn't, and nor is my workshop - which is why a dehumidifier is the perfect solution for maintaining RH year round. Clearly if I worked in a Dutch barn then your reductio ad absurdum argument would hold, but I've taken the precaution of using doors and windows to...

    Workshop dehumidifier with HEPA filter

Wow, you smashed that one out of the park! By the same logic I'm going to turn off my central heating - thanks for the tip.

    Super-recognisers

mseries - I think you've hit the nail on the head. There's no clear understanding of the process except that it appears to occur when we concentrate our foveal vision on a particular task, then our ability to cope with secondary/peripheral tasks goes to pot. Oh, and Graham, don't worry about...

    Super-recognisers

Thanks for the link Steve! My results: 11/14 It's maybe significant that, like all of my test images, I'm a caucasian male. It would be interesting to see the performance statistics for different combinations of test subjects and test image sets. Did everybody have the rogue's gallery of...

Festool TS 55 R dustbag conversion

You're right - it's worth the conversion just to avoid the hose snagging issues. It does take a couple of tries each time before I remember to angle the connector down to fit in the Systainer.

Festool TS 55 R dustbag conversion

Thanks for the heads-up, mine is the TS 55 R, I've no idea if this adaptor works with the older saw.

    Ceramic sharpening stones

I've got a few Spyderco ceramic stones, all mine were acquired in the US, but I'm sure I've seen them on Ebay and a few knife related sites. The Spyderco double-stuff is a great pocket sized stone, although the fine stone won't give you a polished edge - you need the ultra-fine for that (or a...

    Groundbolts

I've had to do a couple of running repairs on fencing recently by adding some bracing struts, to anchor the struts I've used groundbolts (I first encountered them in Germany where they're Erdankers). For very quick secure fixing I can't recommend them highly enough, a few good belts with a lump...

Radio 4: The Man Who Made Things Out of Trees

Hi Pete, No need for any apologies, it's all just healthy discussion. I think one lesson, at least for me, from the two projects is that in many of these projects the actual work is often eclipsed by how effectively the message is handled. I know 21st century media makes it easier to get the...
