What is going on with wood prices right now

I agree, Westminster has screwed everyone in recent years, unless you count the handful of people they've handed millions to for no good reason. But OSB content wood is usually sourced locally from small woody offcuts. The idea behind it is that it's a waste free product, as such cheaper than...

What is going on with wood prices right now

Of all the wood products OSB should be least affected.

    Paint for exterior door

If you're leaving the door in situ so you can close it at night, whatever you choose to do, paint it early in the day to allow drying or it will stick to the door jamb. I would sand all the old paint off wherever you're planning high gloss or it will look horrendous. Think car repair, the end...

What is going on with wood prices right now

I have friends in Australia and they've told me timber prices have got crazy there in the last few months. So you can probably rule out brexit as the cause.

    Screws VS nut inserts

I would be more concerned with the likes of bicycle to bike, friend to m8 (worse still m9). Then there is the replacement of English with Americanisms, my dad used to get really angry about it, I never understood why, until I reached a similar age. You may hate me for this one day, but...

    Screws VS nut inserts

Woodypk, I'm intrigued as to why you want to use metal tabs fastened to the underside of the top and then fasten these to the frame. Would it not be just as strong and easier to drill the box metal in a size suitable for the bolts and then widen the lower side to facilitate the head of the bolt...

    Banggood / Drillpro Tools

It's worth checking sellers that claim to be UK sellers, that particular one is actually based in Hong Kong, that said, items shipped by airmail from HK can be delivered within 3 days if not lost by UK delivery firms.

    Banggood / Drillpro Tools

The VAT situation has changed worldwide. Any and every seller in the world is expected by the UK government to register for UK vat. Hence many sources will dry up in the coming months.

    Banggood / Drillpro Tools

I've only ordered things from Aliexpress since 1/1/21 and I can confirm you pay vat at checkout. I have only ever received items from China delivered mainly by Royal Mail and occasionally by Hermes, neither of which so far have asked me for money and if they do I'll likely tell them to keep...

    NUtool CH10 Pillar Drill spares

Just thought I'd update you, because it's annoying when people don't. My keyless chuck arrived a few weeks back and it's great, tightens easily and accepts all my bits. The only drawback (not too bad) is the length/height. To allow for an extra bezel to grip whilst tightening, it's a bit...

    Banggood / Drillpro Tools

I've had many more delivery issues with Amazon than I've had with Alibaba , Aliexpress or Banggood even eBay. I don't mind having to wait for a delivery if I'm saving upto 90% on price. And before anyone slates buying from China, I recommend checking where All the major brands are actually...

    New(ish) sash windows - maintenance / refurb / repair.

Ollie 48 - 72 hours and you can paint it. Modernisation is great, new dgu's that are weak in so many respects. There must be some way of treating them to prevent linseed from damaging them. Such as an epoxy paint.

    New(ish) sash windows - maintenance / refurb / repair.

Linseed putty has linseed oil in it hence the name. Linseed oil is a drying oil, so it won't affect anything for long, however I imagine if it is applied and subjected to extreme heat or damp too soon, it will be impaired. I renovated one of my Victorian sash windows last year and the putty had...

    New(ish) sash windows - maintenance / refurb / repair.

My suggestion would be, retain the units that haven't failed. Sand back to wood and glue extra h/w to increase the depth of the sash. Get some flush pins (flat things) then linseed putty to seal. Silicone doesn't last long on south facing windows, putty however can survive for decades. I...
