    Turned tennon too small

How about cutting a narrow V groove down the dowl then glue and knock in a thin wedge to expand the dowl slightly. It may end up a little elliptical but the copper can be flattened to suit.

    Jet 1642 lathe

Thank you CHJ - all it needs is a bit of lateral thinking. I'll try your pointer idea.

    Jet 1642 lathe

I have recently purchased a Jet 1642 lathe from Axminster and have what appears to be a design fault on the tailstock measuring guage. When I wind in the tailstock to zero the guage, the live centre is ejected from it's 2MT housing with still around a centimetre to go. I returned to the shop and...

    Best glues

"Horses for courses" - good analogy Jim, you can waste a lot of money backing the wrong horse. Checking the www looks like oily woods such as teak benefit from a dressing of Acetone then leave it for a couple of minutes before applying the glue - generally epoxy. Thanks for the link Mark -...

    Best glues

There's a lot of glues on the market but it looks from your comments, "you get what you pay for". No surprise there then, but as yetloh says the best glue for the job is not always the branded version because it depends on what you are doing - and if it's cheap then there's no great loss having...

    Best glues

Thanks Gary - any particular brands spring to mind?

    Best glues

I used to woodwork through necessity but now want to take it up as a hobby. Things have 'moved on' in glues since my earlier efforts so I'm interested in buying a selection for my workshop shelf. Can anyone recommend a selection of glues to have around - my efforts will centre around wood...

    Crown texturing tool

I have been in touch with Crown and they say the tool should come with 3 washers which are now in the post to me. At present they only have the one texturing wheel but they also have 2 spiralling wheels and an indexing bar to upgrade the texturing system to the spiralling system. They intend to...

    Crown texturing tool

Thanks Petes - Cambournepete, so it's a Sorby copy - thought as much. I'll contact Crown and Sorby and enquire about the extras/compatibility. Bodrighy, making a spiral is the thing that attracted me to the tool in the first place. Perhaps should have gone for the Sorby with the accessories in...

    Crown texturing tool

Thanks for the welcome and the link. Yes, I've seen the Sorby video and it certainly looks like the tools are the same. Mine has a groove down it's length too so the angle can be set. Guess I'll contact Crown and check whether they can confirm the tools are identical. In the Sorby video the tool...

    Crown texturing tool

I am a new starter in woodturning and want to put together a selection of tools having just bought a Jet lathe. I have been given some basic tools to tide me over so am OK for those at the moment but when wandering around Axminster tools I spotted a Crown Texturing tool and having a vague...
