    Efficient Lipping/Edge Banding

Thanks adidat. Masking tape applies enough pressure does it? Anyone tried the Titebond thixotropic moulding glue?

    Efficient Lipping/Edge Banding

Can anyone offer any time saving tips for applying solid wood lippings (say 3-6 mm thick) to veneered MDF in terms of glue type, clamping methods and trimming? Thanks Joel

    Flush Handles

Thanks for your reply Miles. I've been trawling through the online catalogues for several days. If I close my eyes I see cabinet handles. The problem is it is difficult to tell from photographs how much purchase you can get, especially with the recessed handles, and whether they would allow you...

    Flush Handles

Can anyone recommend some chrome/steel inset, or flush inset handles suitable for fairly weighty pull-out under stairs storage units? Thanks Joel

    Eco Friendly Oil ?

Have you tried Osmo hard wax oils? They are not solvent free but I don't find them unpleasant to use and they are certified as safe for children's toys when dry.

How would you go about this?

Hi Noddy, thanks for your comments. The curved bevel on the front edge is at a 45 degree angle and was formed with a draw knife and cabinet scraper. The side bevel is at about 12 degrees. Joel

How would you go about this?

I recently made a sideboard top with a fairly substantial underside bevel (you can see a photo here if you like). I roughed out the shape on the individual boards that made up the top using a bandsaw before gluing them up, then finished with a hand plane after the top was assembled. Joel

    Domino

    plastic laminate/formica

I just bought some sheets of coloured melamine from a company called International Decorative Surfaces. They have a number of branches around the country - you can find the nearest one to you through the Polyrey website. I was quoted about £25 + VAT per sheet (approx 3m x 1.5m) for their budget...

    Hand Plane Iron Chipping

Hi Mark, A few questions: have you honed a secondary, steeper bevel on the blade or are you using it at 25 degrees? What are you planing? I assume, given the age of the plane, that the blade has been sharpened many times, as evidenced by its length? Joel

    Business Insurance

Thanks for the replies. I'm a member of the FSB too but their quotes were well over £1k (I don't work from home). My last quote was from the NFU and was over £1k too, but they did offer a very comprehensive cover, including protection for income lost whilst reinstating the business after a...

    Business Insurance

I currently have a "Tradesman" policy with Axa which is a reasonable price and covers public liability and tools. However it doesn't cover finished goods, goods in transit or business interruption. Can anyone recommend a good policy? I've had a couple of other quotes but they have come out...
