    Breeze block shed base supports

Hi, on the soil you’ve got there will be no settlement. Any size you like. I once had to design a post office garage in Lairg. A long way from Edinburgh. Travelled up the night before. Met a jcb ( -10, jcb pipes froze while travelling) and eventually tried to dig some trial pits, the bucket hit...

    Breeze block shed base supports

It all depends on the soil, you need a firm base and consistent bearing pressure. there will be some settlement of the supports but it’s not so much about the amount of movement but that it is the same at all supports. if you get differential settlement then it can cause problems in the...

Variation 3 is better. In 1 and 2 the joist spans are too big.

    Breeze block shed base supports

No. If you are using 4by 2 then they will only span 4feet between supports. Between the timber and the support ( concrete block of paving slab) there should be a DPC ( damp proof course) this stops the timber getting wet and rotting.

    Breeze block shed base supports

There is an old method ( rule of thumb) for sizing floor and roof timbers. It’s take the span ( in feet ) and half it, add 2 and thats the depth in inches. For roof rafters take the span in feet and that’s the depth of timber you need. For example, If your floor timbers are spanning 6 feet then...

    Powered air mask

Have a powercap and really like it. The only downside is the cloth piece at the chin which is not well designed and tends to break up to quickly.

    Yandles appreciation post 😁

That would be good. I have bought a fair bit from them and had a couple of wrong items sent. Always sorted it and I’ll still go back to them for quality and price. Been once, it’s a long way from Edinburgh ( visiting a daughter in Exeter).

Indian club turning newby advice please?

600mm long is very long for a first project and I assume your friends lathe is large or has an extension bed. You can buy a variety of hardwood timber species 70 by 70 from several good suppliers ( eg Yandles). Try something shorter to practice.

    Help,

I think your right, I have it on the left side as it is interchangeable. The Record Power videos/photos all show it on the right hand side but I think that’s incorrect. live emails respond power and will report on their reply.

    Hello from Edinburgh

The old ones are the best. A long time ago the definition of a structural engineer was someone who multiplied 2 by 2 on a slide rule and got 3.95. Then said, 🤬 call it 4. I was also a chartered civil engineer. If you looked up civil engineering in the Yellow Pages it said go to Boring!
