    spindle size

I am building my own lathe and am now in need of sourcing a steel rod to be machined down as a spindle. Could you please tell me the average spindle diameter on a heavy duty lathe and your opinion on what thread to machine on to each end to allow for chucks/faceplates? Thanks in advance, Jon

    Plane Handles

Thanks for that BugBear, I think your right - I can't seem to get the handles clean enough to warrant not staining them. What dye do you use on your handles, they look fantastic! Thanks, Jon

    Plane Handles

Just sanded down the handles to a Record no.6 back to the bare beech, I would like the handles to look similar to the lie-nielson ones, could you recommend a finish that would achieve this please. Regards, Jon

Screw holes in bottom of bowl

After turning my first bowl :) I need to find a way of hiding the four holes left by the screws in the faceplate. I was thinking about using epoxy putty to fill them and then treat the bowl with some vegetable oil to bring out the colour. http://img395.imageshack.us/img395/3575/sdc10668.jpg...
