If you dont mind the color clash...VB toolrests are indeed 40mm OD on the post... not sure if they come up much cheaper than the Titans tho. VB36 Tool Rests Jeremy

ha ha... and now I have learnt something...I know why 'pineapple' appears in some posts...I thought I was missing some fruit related joke! (yes, I know, late to the party...) J Edit: Pm seen. Point (and forum rules) noted.

    Bowl

Hi Mark, Lovely bowl (form, whatever) stunning wood, contrasting and flowing lines. for me its gorgeous. Discussion on basics of form, function, structure... and healthy debate are a positive thing we can all learn from...surely we can debate and express different views without issue? Mod...

Bench saw fence position when ripping

for anyone that hasnt see a kickback, this link shows an example...the guy is doing pretty much everything to provoke it, not a demo I would like to do! http://www.metacafe.com/watch/910584/table_saw_kickback_demonstration/ Jeremy

Smoothing very thin (1-2mm) thick wood

its a bit more work, but Pete Howlett (ukelele maker) showed me his version of a thickness sander...shop made. like this (but not this one) http://www.boydguitarworks.com/thickness.html The finish was excellent, and incredibly precise tolerances. The one shown needs an extraction hood...

    What kind of tool...

fwiw I dont think you would get the gentle profile of the bead on the bench with a standard beading tool...the ones I have seen leave a hard raised semi-circle. you're better off mastering it with a skew / spindle...although it took me a while to get the knack and I had (and still have) a...

    home made VS lathe

Melvyn Firmager used a home made lathe for years which I had a play with on a course at his place. From memory it was a simple shuttered box filled with something heavy (concrete?) Shaft was mounted on top between pedestal bearing on a tensioned belt drive at the back. Faceplate mounted on...

    ITECH SAWS. Any info please?

I think they are SIP clones from the same factory. I was looking at the smaller 01332...there wasn't any difference I could see between the iTech and SIP side by side, but at the time there also wasnt much difference in price. On balence I would prefer a brand I know (SIP) but the iTech did...

    Basics - accurate centre marking

I use 2 jigs on the same principle...one homemade and one over-engineered toy... Home made version is described here... http://www.diynetwork.com/how-to/viewer-jig-board-center-finder/index.html This one is beautifully made and I love it, but not essential even in my warped judgement...

    Removing rust

I've had good results with electrolysis on old plane bodies and vintage car bits. Its much easier for intricate pieces... some info at: http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/andyspatch/rust.htm

a thicknesser which didn't seem to chip but planed?

in effect they are a big inverted skew plane with a power drive. They are designed for final finish and wont square acurately, the timber registers on the table, any innacuracies in square will be taken up in the drive unit above. Nice bit of kit, but unlikely to figure in my small shop...

    Router table

I have the same table, the one that ate my fingers... :( All better now though (kind of) The top is fine, like Tom I would guess its from the same place as the bench dog. Its built to a price, but its flat, and does what I need. The legs and frame however are pretty lousy...

    What a "Faffy" Machine!

To each his own, but the process seems a bit mechanistic to me. Impressive results, but the whole thing seems a bit pointless...fraid it just leaves me cold. Now if I had the skill to create that result by hand I would be a happy man...

    Pillar Drill and Speed?

Ive got the JET JDP 15 and only ever use 3 speeds. I do quite a range of metal and wood working but have never found need for anything more. Manufacturers seem obsessed with loads of speeds, and the middle pullyey makes the whole train noisier than it should be...
