Woodworking & craft shows and events…

If you're looking for places to sell your stuff, I can recommend a few up here in the North East. Made. UpNorth market at The Boiler Shop - Newcastle. Had my single best day ever selling at this one. Make More Stuff markets. I only did the ones at Baltic Gateshead and it was always a good day...

    Sanding belt/drum sander cleaner

Ahaha! Yes, the sports direct mug. If you google it you’ll see. It’s a ceramic mug, but for some reason they’ve made them HUGE. I would suggest a glass jar though. I was a bit worried about submerging the whole things, but it cleaned up both sides so well. To look at the print on the cloth, you...

    Sanding belt/drum sander cleaner

Okay, listen up everybody! Today I tried the acetone on the lengths of cloth backed aluminium oxide strips for the 16/32 drum sander. Here’s what I did, how I did it and the results it gave. I had 3 lengths of really clogged media. All 3 had some really baked in clog in lines that went all the...

    Sanding belt/drum sander cleaner

This is what I was thinking about doing, but with the simple green. It’s more that I can’t find anywhere that puts SG to a UK comparison. But, fairy might do it. I’m not too fussed about it being time consuming as I have a few pieces cut, so can always have one on the drum. Also, I have a few...

    Sanding belt/drum sander cleaner

I’ll give this a go. I know somebody with a fair bit of actual acetone to hand. Do you soak it or spray it when you clean yours? Does it have any effect on the bond to the cloth? Thanks!

    Sanding belt/drum sander cleaner

Hi! Thanks for your reply. So, it’s all hardwoods. But the main culprits are usually Iroko or Keruing, both of which have quite a high silica content. Also oak. Quite often I glue up several different species and then run that through it. It’s always the Iroko and/or keruing that burns first. I...

    Sanding belt/drum sander cleaner

Hello again! Thank you for all the replies. I have one of those abrasive cleaning blocks, but it doesn’t work in the slightest on the burn marks. I use it regularly to generally clean the drum, but it doesn’t work on the baked lines. If I take the roll off the drum I can bend the strip and some...

    Sanding belt/drum sander cleaner

Hello one and all! I’m hoping this will be a quick and easy answer for somebody here? I’m looking for something to clean off the build up of burn lines for my drum sander. I’ve found plenty of videos of people over in the US using stuff like Simple Green and other serious chemical stuff that...

    Dust extractor flow in pipes

I’m just going to ask a couple of questions with regards to this kind of thing. Any help will be much appreciated. Is there a difference between using a standard 1hp top and bottom bagged extractor with a 100mm inlet and one of the 50litre vacuum type extractors with 100mm inlet? I was told a...

This sounds like a great idea! Thank you! I’ll give that a go tomorrow and report back. I just happen to have a spare blast gate I can use. Thanks again Jamie

    A sucking problem

Hi! Thanks for your reply. Also, apologies for not explaining properly. The vac I’m using for the bigger cyclone is a 500w dust collector with 100mm input and output. It’s one of those standard ones with a filter bag at the top and the dust bag at the bottom. (I’ve taken the filter bag off...

    A sucking problem

Hello all, I’ve spent the weekend “upgrading” my dust collection system from a standard 500w dust collector with the bag, to include a new cyclone and steel drum. Here’s a bit of background. I have one of those small Chinese cyclones that is attached to a 50l blue plastic drum. The suction is...
