Help please - Japanese style wardrobe sliding doors

Total amateur here, but I scribed a bit of wood at each side to give a vertical edge for the doors to close against, screwed them to the wall, filled the gap with caulk, and painted the same colour as the walls.

Help please - Japanese style wardrobe sliding doors

Dave, sounds like your doors will be a bit less of a bodge than mine (not that I'm not proud of my economical use of materials and effort!).

Help please - Japanese style wardrobe sliding doors

I made 'japanese style' sliding wardrobe doors once. They used a light cross-section frame (thickness maybe 18mm or even less, width <50mm?) with glued half-lap joints (that combination of half lap and mitred at the corners), and fabric stretched across the back and pinned to the frame. Each...

Perhaps we'll be buying cheap Vietamese lathes.

Warning / Price hike , VAT

Except VAT registered businesses don't pay VAT on their purchases; it's intended to be a one-off tax paid by the consumer. And if a business isn't VAT registered, they dont charge VAT. Actually, I'll bet there are others on this forum who know much more about it and can correct me if I'm wrong. :)

Qangsheng block plane back to normal price (revised title)

Interestingly, Axminster have bumped up their prices since yesterday - one of their morticers has gone up 20%, for example. Looks like since they have had to deal with the VAT rise, they've taken the 'opportunity' to slap on a bit more at the same time. Overall, a basket of three machines (I was...

    H.I.P.S.

Building regs are definitely a good idea. But this is nearly 600 quid to show to the council that: the kitchen drain is the right slope, the sockets are far enough away from an internal corner, there is more than 1 cubic metre of storage, there is an extractor fan and so on... nothing...

    H.I.P.S.

I recently found out that I need a building warrant for my new kitchen install, as it's in a new room (in Scotland, a building warrant is issued by the council when you show them your work adheres to regs, and then you can do the work). Got a quote from an 'architectural technician' - supposed...

    what would you do?

Note to self: Just ignore Mac prosletysing. A response that might be construed as critical of Mac users or Macs will tend to be escalated into a futile argument. If only I could follow that rule. :)

    what would you do?

12 or so years and counting :) While I think Mac users tend to overstate the terribleness of Windows security, I think virus scanners are probably worthwhile for people who aren't computer literate - and are thus likely to perform the actions that install viruses on their computers. While I've...

    what would you do?

I've never had any anti-virus software installed on any of my home PCs and have never suffered ill consequences as a result. In contrast I have heard many people complaining of problems installing Norton Anti Virus or keeping it up to date.

    House sold in 4 hours

Apparently studies have shown that estate agents generally take a week longer to sell their own houses, and get a better price. Selling in four hours certainly maximises the amount of income the agent gets while minimising the amount of work they need to put in.

If you want to see why Scrit is doing it to us...

Eeeuw. For those who find it hard to imagine how this happened, I remember watching a program about DIY accidents, which showed one man who managed to sever his hand and half his forearm using a mitre saw. He was using it on the floor to cut skirting board or some such thing, and slipped in...

    I hate flat pack

I think well designed flatpack furniture is admirable in its simplicity of construction, and general economical pared-down-ness. IKEA, king of the flatpack, deserves much respect for providing affordable, attractive furniture to the masses. At the other end of the spectrums, there are...
