Metal free 'knockdown' joints for bed

Hello, If I'm not very much mistaken, drawpegging means, that the holes through the mortice and the tenon are slightly offset ( about 1 -1.5 mm ), so that after banging the dowel in, the joint is drawn tight. Because of the offset of the holes the dowel sits very tight in his holes and I guess...

Which of these chucks is the best buy?

Hello, I would go for the Versa Chuck. It comes with 3 different mounting jaws ( Axminster, Oneway, I forgot the third one ). This makes it possible to use a wide variety of jaws from differnet makers.

    Texturing Tool

Hi Simon, I've got the tool, but unfurtunately I'm away from home for a week and therefor can't measure it right now. If nobody else comes up with the measurements, you can get them sunday next week.

    Japanese chisels

If the ordered item is in stock ( it usually is ) the order is dispatched within a day. The rest depends on the carrier. If I'm not mistaken they use UPS, so it should be quite fast, even across the Channel.

Newbie - my first EVER bowl

Hello, It has already been mentioned, that overheating is not such a big issue with HSS, it is stable up to about 570°C. But nevertheless I always plead for grinders with half the normal speed and 40 mm wide wheels. The Creusen TS 7500 is such a machine ( available from Axminster ). I was happy...

Newbie - my first EVER bowl

Hi Phil, Not bad for a first ever ( much better than mine ), especially when you look at it from the top. But there is something that spoils it a bit for me and that's the foot. It's much too big for a bowl of this size. Furthermore it's sides are more or less vertical. For me this gives the...

    My latest turnings

Hello, I too like nos. 2 + 6 best. The others are nice too, but IMO no. 1 would look better, if the curved sideline would go all the way down and the base should be narrower.

Whats the best timber for turning

Hello, I would say there is no best timber. If you are a beginner you should use cheap stuff till you're able to master the tools and know what you're doing. Sycamore and beech turn quite well, are easy to come by; you could maybe use old able legs. Fruit woods are excellent for turning as...

Infill component planes...designed & manufactured by Hol

Hello, Corset takes the words out of my mouth. I was seriously thinking of buying a Shepherd kid. If the price doesn't exceed the calculated figures too far, the A13 would attract me much more than any of the Shepherds.

    help with spalted maple

Hello, There was an article in Woodturning No 117/p. 79. The author referred to an older article in Woodturning and the solution was washing up liquid, to be precise a 1 : 1 mixture of washing up liquid and water. He soaked the blank in it for about 5 days. The wood was as good as new, he says.

    EXSQUARIMENT

Hello, I've done a little experiment in turning technique and shape. It hasn't quite turned out the way I wished, the edges are a bit to thin, and a little bit has broken off while sanding. But I would like to have your opinion about the thing; maybe I have another go one of these days...

    hazel goblet

Hello, Criticism on the photograpy again; no kitchen sink this time, but the overall quality could be better. The goblet itself seems nicely crafted, but that ring under the goblet spoils the overall impresion of the piece ( for me at least ). IMO it's far to big, if not completely superfluous...
