    Woodworm tracks

Thanks for your comments. I opted to fill them a mix of sawdust and glue. Turned out quite dark. Hopefully the wood will darken once the finish is applied. I’ll post pickies once finished.

    Woodworm tracks

Afternoon all. Looking for some advice on woodworm tracks in an old elm slab I’m turning into a coffee table. Took me a week to flatten with hand planes and now find lots of tracks on the surface. What’s the best way to hide / fill / turn into a feature?

Thanks. It’s all white oak with osmo finish. Lid is one piece and the bottom is 4 pieces tongue and groove to allow for movement. All done with a plough plane! Took a while 😄

Wow. That is impressive. Is it flat or contoured top. How long did it take you?

Project ideas for an oak slab

Hi all, I have been given an old oak shelf 1 5/8" thick by 38"x 16". i would welcome any suggestions for a project. I have mainly hand tools, but have a festool track saw and a router. see photos. cheers.

Ha ha. I was the first person to ever do it at my school. Fair to say the teachers weren’t up to it. Shame really as I do regret not following my passion back then. Did a geography degree instead 😕

Not quite in the same league as some of the other projects posted, but it’s the first woodwork project since doing A-level woodwork, in 1986! It’s Matt Estlea’s cabinet project.

    Mid range/budget chisels

I was recommended Ashley Iles bevelled Mk II and have started building a collection. They are excellent chisels for cabinet making. The backs don’t take much flattening to get a mirror finish. I buy the odd vintage Marples on eBay too. But they tend to go for high prices.
