    Wooden handle screwdrivers

There's a recent video by AvE on youtube that's up this alley, while not talking about turn-screw style drivers specifically he's singing the praises of unvarnished wooden handles in the oilier workshop. It's not something I've conciously thought about, but it's beginnig to look like my...

Clamps - Best bang for buck?

Hi guys, thanks for the replies. I'm worked off my feet this week, and this mountain of info deserves a much more comprehensive (and probably cohesive) reply than I'm capable of now, but I'll get to it soon

Clamps - Best bang for buck?

Hi all, I'm looking at buying a pile of clamps, primarily F and G types. Where should I be looking, for the best bang for buck? I've got a few cheapo F clamps where the casting is slightly skewed, and I hate that - I'm not looking for cheap, just the cheapest option for a decent quality clamp...

    Useful knots to learn.

The slightly obscure knots I've found that I use often are the Zeppelin hitch (it's good for joining larger ropes, and strong but comes apart fast with extremely little effort) and the Dragon - Double Dragon Loop - which is like a mid-line Bowline to an extent. It also gives you a line at 90...

Dewalt track saw not running parallel to track - Am I doing something wrong?

Quick update - Fixed it. Upon closer inspection, the rear shoe-to-saw fixings allow a little movement. The front end of the saw's extremely positively affixed, but the back end can give a bit of a wiggle. It had definitely been dropped by someone (grrrrr....) as the blade was about 1.3mm out...

Dewalt track saw not running parallel to track - Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks for the replies everyone, it's giving me a good path to work through the possible causes. The bearings are perfect with no play at all (this is its third blade, it's pretty new, no dings or abuse), and the blade's a brand new one of the blades it's supplied with. They have cuts to allow...

Dewalt track saw not running parallel to track - Am I doing something wrong?

It's nice and snug on the rails - I adjusted it up when I first noticed it being inconsistent. I've not dropped it, but other people have used it, so that may well be the cause of the fault. I can't see how the shoe would adjust on the saw, but I'll give it another thorough look. It appears to...

Dewalt track saw not running parallel to track - Am I doing something wrong?

I've got a DCS576 track saw, and it's been fantastic for most of the time I've had it. However, it's started cutting curves, to the point that the blade contacts the rail if you push it too far. I assumed it was the fault of the blade so I've changed that for a new one, but 3rd cut with the new...

Thoughts on older Lurem machines? Specifically P/Ts

Thanks for the comprehensive reply! I went to have a look at it, and it wasn't quite what I'd expected - It was pretty much a bench-top machine, albeit on some really thick angle legs, and with a 6" cutter head and 2hp motor. The tables were cast, but cast alloy, and each side was two pieces...

Thoughts on older Lurem machines? Specifically P/Ts

Hi all. I've been offered a Lurem planer/thicknesser, for around £300. I'm heading up to look at it later this week, but would like to hear if anyone has any experience with them. I have a friend, who's opinion I trust, who has a Lurem combination machine which he loves. The planer I'm going to...
