Finish suitable for a solid-sided Cradle

Greetings I'm about to start building a cradle for a Grandchild due end of Feb next year: I've been keeping some nice Elm boards for just this project, but I'm a tad concerned as to what finish to use, particularly on the inside: Although it won't have a hood, it will be solid-sided and I...

    Dream kit

You're a fortunate man, Drew; that's a nice way to work: Of course, it only works if you're confident in your abilities  Pete

    Worktop Joining.

I recently fitted 3 w/tops in a U shaped configuration for No.2 daughter: Couldn't afford a 1/2" router AND a jig, so went for the router, and mitred the joints. Nothing was 90 deg.(of course), and I sweated over the job, but all turned out OK. Woodsmith is 'zackly right with his tips: One...

    SIP dovetail jig

Greetings Is anyone actually producing joints with this bit of kit yet? I ordered a 12.7mm bearing guided cutter from Trend, and guess what.... I got 1/2" sockets and 3/4" tails!! Presumably, I should have ordered the "other cutter", the 14.(something)mm one: Can anyone confirm the tip size...

    Bandsaws (Record or Scheppach) ?

Jeff If you don't need a big 'un, have a look at the laser guided 8" slider in B&Q: I was well impressed with its sliding action... Sweet as a nut! The 10" without the lazer was about the same money, and the action was diabolical....Obviously from different makers. Pete

    Band saw questions

At the risk of dissapearing down the wrong trouser leg........ I bought a Stanley Jet panel saw and a tennon saw recently, to do some renovations on my daughter's "new" house: They certainly cut effortlessly, although the tennon saw can be tricky to get started as it bites a bit aggressively...

    Band saw questions

Evening Duncan I've just bought a new BS, but haven't had time to play proper with it yet  But I would think a BS is just about the only thing you could resaw 5mm with! I assume the easiest way to go about it would be to fix-up a second fence t'other side of the blade, and pinch the wood...

Price comparison site for us woodbutchers?

Thanks for the opinions on my last post: I've pretty well decided on the Nutool jointer & thicknesser, but...... the saw needs more cerebration (I fink): I think I would probably get more use from a bandsaw, but really can't go over the £200.00 watershed. This seems to rule out any of the saws...

    Budget Workshop machinery

Greetings, all This is my first post on this 4m, so I'll apologise in advance if this has already been done to death: Amazingly, I have a bit of folding money avilable to spend on the workshop just now, and need to get it spent sharpish before 'er indoors finds a "better" use for it! First...
