On butt hinges and MDF, again

Many thanks to all who responded. Solid wood frame idea was abandoned, mostly because of concerns about getting it straight and of exact dimensions, also hiding grain seemed too much trouble. So I ordered the MDF yesterday, fingers crossed I got the dimensions right (not very likely). Due to...

On butt hinges and MDF, again

Benchwayze, you had me rethinking the subject again. It is framed doors with panels and loose tenons, as seen in this forum, and painted, this is what I'll aim as looks. I've been thinking about this for two months now and rejected the wooden frame as too much PITA in my case. Poplar isn't...

On butt hinges and MDF, again

It's a shame - I like the look of shaker style doors with butt hinges so much.. But I hear you, it seems everyone agrees it's a bad idea. And if it can fail, with me it usually does. Thanks again.

On butt hinges and MDF, again

Hi, I'm going to start building several pieces of furniture out of MDF, with a built-in wardrobe among them. It will have rather massive doors, approx. 2.4m x 0.6m each. My question is, do you think a newbie can realistically install butt hinges on these doors and achieve that elusive equal...

    Advise on glued up board

Since lately I'm reading this forum a lot, I thought I should post the result, even though a bit late. The bed was finished 1 year after my post and has seen a year of use. I did glue the boards without dowels and while gluing, trying to keep it straight I covered the center and didn't notice...

    Advise on glued up board

Yes, it was this design, but not having any full length boards I abandoned it, for a classic bed with headboard, footboard and detachable rails. Too bad the rest was cut to length already. I could use a T-shaped bar, to reinfoce the rail and to support the slat frame in the same time, yes...

    Advise on glued up board

I'm a newbie, and I don't trust myself to able to do frame and panel of acceptable quality, but will consider it. The original design (sorry can't post urls) - a tatami bed, I was after was much simpler and I thought I could do it, but the lack of long boards made me to change it entirely.

    Advise on glued up board

I'm trying to build a bed, but the lumber I bought doesn’t have useable lengths for the rails. My idea is to make ones, by gluing together shorter strips (60mm wide by 40mm thick), like in the picture. I wonder though, if such board will be strong enough given the application and whether to use...
