My Lamp project (first attempt at spindle turning.)

I inherited the lathe from my father in law, and the chuck was with the lathe. Cant find a makers name on it. Sorry. Do you have any faceplates? If you dont, get a couple of nuts that fit your drive spindle, and ask a local eng shop to weld some round metal plates onto the nuts, then drill a few...

My Lamp project (first attempt at spindle turning.)

Hi spannermonkey, I think I have the same lathe as you, and I had a length of 3/4in Whitworth threaded bar, turned at a local engineering shop, to accept a drill chuck fom an old drill. Hope this helps, and any more questions just ask. Doug

Thanks Leo, the complete bowl was in the picture I took, but when I reduced the size to 640 x 480 in Photobucket, it came out wrong. Doug

    Practice for comp

Turned this bowl tonight as an experiment for what I will attempt for the May competition. I think the wood is Zebrano? and I only chose that blank cos I was given a bit of it. I got 5 blanks from it, approx 5in x 5in x 2.75in. It was a bit rushed, not finished with my usual attempt at a good...

    April Eggcup Challenge Entry Submissions.

Rounded, 4 tenons cut into the wood, large enough for my 3 jaw chuck, then parted. Each blank gripped in the chuck and...

    DIY pyrography

Thanks John, I must try and source a supply of decent wood to burn. Where do you get the inspiration for your coaster flowers. I fancy trying pyroed coasters as Xmas pressies. My god did I just mention Xmas. No problems here with twisted humour. Does that mean I`m twisted. Doug

    DIY pyrography

I find it quite strange, really. You keep adding a stroke here then a couple of strokes there, then you sit back to look at it and what you thought was going to be good, turns out to be a bit special. The hard part is knowing when to stop. Lovely flower John. Managed an hour in the garden...

    DIY pyrography

Thanks HC and Jumps. Hi John, I was allowed a few hours in the garage today, as it was my birthday, which was taken up by making my eggcups for the comp. So I will now be settling down for a read and maybe get some burning done tomorrow. Will keep you updated. Very nice work on the coasters by...

    My mushroom attempt

Always nice to make a sale Gordon, has to be better than working for a living. Making any money in this economic climate has to be a bonus. Doug
