I can't believe how much this blew up. Thanks you all for more information than I could possibly absorb, haha. Specific thanks should go to the 2% of respondents who tried to tell me why I should pick the Quangsheng over Wood River.
I need a jack plane and a jointer plane. I have narrowed it down to the Wood River models and the Quangsheng models. I know they are pretty much the same but there are some differences that I can't seem to find. Can anyone recommend one over the other? The Wood River ones cost about £30 more...
Thanks for the reply. I only started trying to find hand planes in the last few days. I have no idea what a frog is or what makes a good cap iron, lol. Can you elaborate on what you mean about the problems with the Rider cap irons?

Thanks for the reply and message. I cant reply via PM yet as I need more activity on my account and I only joined today. Whats the pro's of buying used planes? Is it only the cost savings or do you think that Stanley one would be better than the Axminster rider ones?
I was going to buy the...
I made a couple of desks when I first started wood working but the tops have twisted and warped heavily. I am about to pick up a jack plane and a jointer plane and I decided that I would use one of the table tops to practice my hand plane skills.
My question is, the table is finished with a...
