UPDATE: Well Axi's quality control might be a bit off but their customer service was on point. I have a new clamp winging it's way to me as we speak and I've been asked to 'dispose' of the old one as I see fit. I'm thinking I might yet be able to salvage the clamp to be largely usable, I guess...
