Post a photo of the last thing you made

Little oak stool that I made this weekend. I used some epoxy resin to close the knot you see on the bottom left (bit hard to see on this image), first time trying that. I'm not a big fan of river tables etc. but found out that clear epoxy actually looks quite nice. Next to it is a lime tree...

Post a photo of the last thing you made

Hi, so the way I've constructed it is using 18mm birch plywood panels connected with dominos. The top and middle shelves are between the two side panels, while the bottom panel is underneath the side panels. It's a relatively simple construction, which you could also probably do with some other...

Finishing wooden trim of glass window in door

Quick update on how it turned out: I handplaned the trim to get rid of the remaining white paint in the pores, which had the additional benefit of revealing a more beautiful and darker tone of the wood. I then finished it with some Kreidezeit hard wax oil, which darkened it even more. Final...

Finishing wooden trim of glass window in door

Thanks all, I'll try to get hold of some Red Meranti to test a few options and see if a stain is required. Don't have any offcuts of the actual trim unfortunately, but it should give a good indication. Didn't mention it, but this is on the internal side of the front door, so weather proofing is...

Finishing wooden trim of glass window in door

Thanks @Reffc . It wasn't very neatly done, but it's actually at my parents house and they're not that fussy about these things, so I doubt they'd want to remove it again. If it were at my own house I'd not be that happy about it. Given the Red Meranti (or similar?) wood, do you have any...

Finishing wooden trim of glass window in door

Hi all, recently we had some windows replaced, and for the front door they put on some new trim around the glass. However, they left it unfinished and the colour doesn't match the original material of the door. What would you recommend to finish this bit of trim with so it gets to about the...

How to mount Blum soft-close hinge with push to open?

Managed to fit the doors, result turned out quite well I think. I made a test door which helped a lot. It wasn't perfect, but there is enough room for adjustment in the hinges in all directions that I could line it up for a nice even shadow gap on all directions.

How to mount Blum soft-close hinge with push to open?

Thanks, those adjustments should probably be sufficient to correct any errors. Actually I initially thought the straight mounting plate also couldn't be adjusted, but it actually can (2mm up and down, just like the other types). Good idea about the mockup, will get some cheap MDF and make a...

How to mount Blum soft-close hinge with push to open?

Thanks Mike. I've watched this video and the one about the Blum hinges from Peter, which were very helpful. But the Tip-On I'm using is slightly different, so was wondering if it required a different position, and my cabinet is sort of a mix between the two situations he addresses (overlaid /...

How to mount Blum soft-close hinge with push to open?

Hi all, I'm a bit stuck on how to exactly mount a Blum soft close hinge (71B3750) with this mounting plate (175H3100) and Tip-on push to open device. The Tip-On is the special version that works with self-closing doors. Basically wondering how to ensure A. equal shadow gaps on all side, B. how...

    Order of finishing?

Seems to have worked out well! Practically no gap, clean glue line.

    Order of finishing?

Thanks Jim, will try the convex shape. I was thinking of also adding a sheet of plywood between the batons and the top as well, to distribute the pressure even more.

    Order of finishing?

Hi all, I'm working on a small cabinet, which has one specific design feature, namely a floating/fake top. This is a 6mm sheet of plywood, which gets glued on the structural top of the cabinet. I've just finished the main glue up and I'm wondering how to continue. Had two main questions...

What type of hinge is this?

Follow up question: How would you rout/drill these holes required for this hinge? Cabinet (about 40mm deep): Door (about 15mm deep) Particularly the cabinet top one seems tricky as it's quite deep. Balancing a router on that thin edge, making a deep cut and remaining perpendicular seems...

What type of hinge is this?

Thanks. Will have to think about it a bit, this is maybe 5 to 10 times as expensive as normal Blum hinges with tip on... They do look really nice though.
