Just the compression seal (ie between the door and the jam).
Most of the problems i've had with seals in the past have been on the hinge side of the door, i guess there you have more of a sideways drag across the seal rather than a push down on top of the seal. Would you recommend a fitting the...
Hi forum, im replacing an internal door from our kitchen to a conservatory (which we dont heat) and want to get a decent air seal on it.
Im making the door from birch ply and polycarbonate sheet. When i have made internal doors before i have always used self adhesive roam or rubber P section...
Thanks for the responses. The posts i put in are oak (as i paid just under £30 per ft^3) which by my reckoning was about the same price as softwood from the local builders yard/wickes, and i rather support the old guy that runs the sawmill. Think most of his wood is from fallen trees or people...
Hi Forum,
Replacing a fence that was blow down in the storms a few weeks ago. The fence is also a 20cm retaining wall to a raised bed on one side.
I can get 1inch green oak boards (seasoned outdoors for a long time) for not much more than 19mm treated softwood gravelboards from wickes.
The...
+1 for Wera.
I have a bit set and been used for DIY for 5/6 years with an impact driver and think i have just broken 1 pozi bit in that time, and you can buy the individual bits from toolstation for a quid or 2.
I mainly used Torx bits and they are fairly bulletproof.
Interestingly i watched this video last week when i was trying to figure out how to cut some 1/4" loose tenons, and ended up using my mitre fence just as you suggest, worked fine. I guess the only benefit of that jig is that with a screw thread you can micro adjust a bit easier....
Thanks for the replies.
Magnets I'm about unsure of as it's not a physical catch, and to have ones strong enough to stop the wind blowing the door open would also be quite difficult for people to open.
The hasp idea will probably one of the easiest to fit but it's not self latching, I can see...
Hi all, update to my outdoor little library thread, installed it about 2 weeks ago and all fine up until this weekend when storm Arwen hit. I fitted the door with some self closing euro hinges i had in the shed and a roller catch to keep the door closed, but either someone left the door open or...
I picked up one of the Axminster yellow ones a few week ago and very happy with it. Think they do a more expensive cast iron one which felt lovely......but couldn't justify the extra cost.
There is a door, can just about see it at the side, I'm just waiting for the oil to dry before i attach it. Will be loose fitting and some intentional gaps at the back under the eaves will allow airflow through.
Thats for all the comments! I'll float the idea of the Zinc sheet with the Parish Council and see what they think.
If it was a choice between some think roofing felt i have knocking around in the shed and the flashing tape (held with a few roofing nails so it doesnt slip in the sun) what would...
Each side of the roof is only 450 long x 500mm deep so with a 150mm wide bit of flashing its only 4/5 layers which i think would look OK.
I've never worked with zinc sheet before but i should imagine it would be harder to work with than flashing tape which is pretty flexible and easily trimmed...
Hi all, looking for some opinions on whether you think this is a good idea. Carrying on from my Previous question i have made this little library thing from hardwood and now finishing it with oil ready to be installed in the village.
I was thinking of using self adhesive/ tar backed flashing...
