Safe disposal of an unusual nail gun

Thinking back to the 70's, there were two types, one the cartridge drove the nail via a piston while the other, the nail was driven directly by the cartridge. We had to have a ticket to operate the latter on building sites. Cartridge colours were in ascending strength Blue Green Yellow Red...

    Great Rejoinders

I was working for a concrete company, the boss arrived at work 7am to find the four of us lounging around the smoko room drinking coffee. With an irate tone he said "I'm sick and tired of coming to work and finding you lot sitting around doing SFA!" There was a moments silence then Jimmy said...

    Joke Thread III

Two Kiwi blokes, one asks "What's a Hindu?" the other replies, "Lays iggs eh." A Kiwi and a Pom walking down the street encounter a Nun with her arm in a sling. "what happened to your arm?" asks one of the blokes. "I slipped and broke it getting out of the bath" replies the Nun. After awhile...

Tommy Hammer had a terrible st st st st stammer, and eventually his wife said " Tommy I'm over this, what about you go and see a speech pathologist to see if your stammer can be cured?" Tommy went to a specialist doctor who told him "take off your clothes" when he was undressed the specialist...

repairing a Stanley 73 brace, is this the wrong part?

Drill the first hole the ratchet wheel, then slip it onto the shaft and line that hole up with the one in the shaft, then drill the second hole right through both assembled parts. How did you manage to break it in the first place? Cheers, Geoff.

    Brace id required

Thanks for that link Claus, the AUROWA logo shown is different from that on Richie's brace, which reinforces my opinion that the head on my example is a replacement. Cheers, Geoff.

    Brace id required

Hi Richie, I've got a small brace with the same logo, in a similar position to yours, no other marking visible. But when I removed the head to repair a crack in the wood I found on the underside of the quill "D.R.G.M. AUROWA". Why anyone would put their branding out of sight like that is beyond...

    Tools and woodworkers

I was an owner driver in the concrete game, my first truck was a 1976 Ford Louisville we purchased in 1980. We ran that truck for over twenty years. Somewhere about 1999 - 2000 someone commented "who'd you upset to be driving that old piece of carp?" "The bank manager" I replied. In 2002 we...

    Charles Nurse & Co

Thanks Argus, that's very helpful. I'd seen the prancing horse trade mark on the cover of an online 1902 catalogue but no sign of John Bull. Cheers, Geoff.

    Charles Nurse & Co

Hi all, I came across this centre bit branded C. Nurse & Co, which on relevant threads here informs me it is Charles Nurse of Walworth Road, London. There is another mark on it that I initially thought was a fat guy with OHN BULL below it which took to be John Bull. Am I on track? Apologies...

How to use this old wire fence tensioner? All the gear and no idea!

Hi K10, I've posted three photos to try to demonstrate how your strainer should grip the wire, which I hope will help. As the others have mentioned you'll need a chain to walk the strainer along. Cheers, Geoff.

    Joke thread

A bloke I worked with told me he'd worked in a boat yard and was sent to the store to get a bucket of "propeller pitch". The storeman sent him back to the workshop to find out what degree of pitch was required.

    Joke thread

Todays news paper contains an item "Judges in the UK are being urged to drop the term 'postman' in favour of 'postal operative'...." This is going to play havoc with a poem I learnt about 50 years ago, which will now go like this: Postal operative out on daily run, thinks he'll stop and give...
