Thanks for the replies. Yes that's roughly what I was doing using a solvent based stripper, for a short time and gently working at it with wire wool before sluicing it down.(at least after I stopped attacking the top with a scraper). I can't see a way of doing it mechanically.
Ill try some...
So I have a little stand that was on my great grandmother's landing, for years it held toilet rolls and for a long time now it had my pillar drill on it. I always thought I would get round to doing something with it and recently decided to strip it as the mock wood paint effect had taken a real...
I don't know but look very similar to a couple of big pieces I got from a local farm sale. Apparently they were once in a local harbour and over 70 years old.
I'm away now but when I get back I'll take some pics and watch the thread with interest.
I'm planning a bench and some turning with off...
Yup, I'm definitely interested in seeing this. Always thought I might make a spinning wheel for my mum but never got round to it.
I lived near Midhurst for a while, spent quite a lot of time at Hazlemere Station waiting for the train to London.

As Peter says these are a more traditional look but I like them and used them for simple ceiling height units
They look really well, I appreciate you said these were not so much fun as others - but well worth it! I don't know much about planes but this is my favourite along with the Sopwith Camel
Thanks, yes I guess that's pretty much what I expected. I'm not light at 15st but wouldn't wear steel cap boots, or worse, stilettoes... I didn't imagine much risk of going straight through the roof as thinking of an overspecced frame with both joists and rails on 450mm centres and would hope...
Hi Ian,
This is very interesting and informative, thanks.
One question that I have in choosing whether to go for box profile is how strong it is for walking/working on? I want to replace the roof of an attached garage. We have been accustomed to using this roof to access and work on the chimney...
Hi Andrew, yes that looks very much like what I am looking for. That one is rated to 1kw whereas the saw is 1800w but if I could find one that matched then I would definitely give it a go
Thanks
Edit: just found the 2kw version, I'll order one and give it a go 👍
Thanks, yes I saw these, I think this is very similar to the modules some of the YouTubers are fitting, the Makita compatible ones are cheaper on fleabay and seem to be very similar. I will open up the saw and have a look, if I'm lucky there will be space to squeeze one in and I'll be able to...

I was hoping to find something like this but no luck beyond this search, I guess it was either ineffective or not commercially viable.
Thanks,
Yes I've seen a few if these retrofits, I was hoping to have something that didn't involve opening up and modifying the saw case.but that might not be possible.
Thanks Spectric, but this saw, as far as I am aware has no soft start, it's always started with a kick. This seems to be a common problem based on a Google search.
There are no known faults with the installation, professionally installed and checked over recently, I run a range of different...
