    Old Bandsaw wheel wobble advice

Feel your pain i bought its baby brother a few years back ,only a 12" version, but it often drives me mad with one wobbly wheel . I totally restored mine which had proper bearing in the wheels but still wobbles probably due to a slightly deformed wheel (they are a cast alloy type). They look...

    Making Oil Paint.

Linseed oil never really dries totally and will eventually decompose into soaps etc... eventually especially with pigments added containing metals. Never use linseed oil from a shop for food use ,it has various anti oxidants in it which prevent it drying. Being a violin maker/ bow maker...

    Lead Carbonate Paint

Sorry i was assumng the face was white (no idea why). Lead paint in your case would be a good linseed oil based paint made with lead driers. One of the specialist linseed oil based paint makers would probably have something suitable and more or less historical accurate but without the lead.

    Lead Carbonate Paint

You can buy it as artist paint under the name Flake White but most has been replaced by a alternative hue, i have a tin of the genuine stuff in my workshop which ive never used. Lead white paint can darken especially when outside and exposed to the atmosphere. But its often stable when in...

    Cedar of Lebanon Backs

Cedar of lebanon is very easy to resaw on a bandsaw. Ive done alot of it ,. most bits ive done were around a metre length from 15mm thick boards to 6-7mm and this was 8 to 9 " high stuff. I used a meat and fish cutting blade .

    Thickness Sander

If you are able to do metalwork ,i would make one. I sold one around 3 years back . They are rather simple in construction but well made and reliable. But expensive.

16th. Century Venetian gilded tabernacle frame with hand cut and carved mouldings.

Wonderful work , thanks for showing . I made this meagre Cassetta frame out of some left over decking timber aged to look old . Used the sgraffito technique though black bole onto gold leaf that was itself laid on red bole. Only took me a few days on and off.:)

    ceyon satinwood veneer

Hi, I just discovered a package i bought from the US in 2008 of ceylon satinwood veneer ,that i had intended to use for making instrument cases but never got around to it. The stuff now appears to be quite rare and i cant find any online with the extent of figure that mine has. It was surplus...

    Koa!

Koa is a very nice wood but quite expensive in the UK. I `m currently building a couple of acoustics, with unusual choice of top wood and unusual figure.
