Swirl Marks after using Festool Rotex (ROS mode)

I have nothing against Festool but my philosophy has always been that some tools have limited lifespans - especially sanders. I had a Festool salesman in my workshop once who couldn't get his head around my comment that when my ROS dies I just walk across to the toolshop and buy a new one and...

Swirl Marks after using Festool Rotex (ROS mode)

This is just a downside of ROS's that happens when you apply too much pressure. Before changing grits go over the wood with a light sweep - allow the 'random orbit' to do it's thing! You will now be disowned by all Festool owners for admitting this happens - they all tell me it never does and...

    Burr Walnut

Somewhere on youtube there are videos of one of the high-end manufacturers (might be Bentley?) showing you around their woodshop. They veneer onto the curves and then spend a lot of time filling and colourmatching the patches in the burr before the many coats of laquer that get applied. It's a...

Politicians in general. And Music as political comment. :D

Colourful though those lyrics are, the sad reality is that those who choose to take offence at the Fairytale lyrics would find nothing disagreeable with the Wap lyrics!! I've yet to actually meet one of these people - I've only heard about them in the media. I feel I'm missing out!

    Stone tops

This was my thinking but I was wondering if anyone has tried this?

    Stone tops

I don't mean a granite worktop. This small table will be around 500 x 300mm and the top needs fixing to the base. I can guarantee the table will be lifted and moved around - by the holding the top - and I'd like to avoid leaving the rest of the table behind!!

    Stone tops

If I make a small side table out of wood the top will be attached with turn-buttons. What if I want a top made of granite or marble - how do I attach that to the rest of the table? - bond a piece of ply to the stone????

Maple box - question about splines

Nice box. It's easy to put too much glue in the slot which doesn't squeeze out as much as you think when you 'seat' the splines. Also, don't make the splines too tight a fit - ideally they should slide in with just hand pressure before the glue grabs. One thing that's also easy to overlook...

    Any physicist / meteorologist around

Wind is just a manifestation of air pressure differentials and is not a permanent force - it comes and goes. The energy of the wind will naturally dissipate so making use of it (locally, at ground level) to turn a turbine won't change the energy in/energy out equation but it will make use of it...
