Looking for simple design software or software designed for the simple :)

Paint.net is free software that has a bit more options than Windows Paint. But it remains a simple 2D editor. CAD software will be more powerfull and the way to go for designing something a litlle more elaborate.

    Veritas skew block plane

I have one, it's one of the best planes I own. Very versatile.

    Resaw blade advice

Thanks for this! But I'm really happy with the blade from bandsaegeshop, which I ordered in Germany. The advice wasn't as good as you get from Tuff Saw, but the blade works well :)

    Resaw blade advice

Well, with the right saw blade, it wasn't such a big deal after all 😄

    Resaw blade advice

The top is now back at 6,5cm thickness, just as it was before I hand planed 1,5cm off of it 😅. I have some JUUMA Holdfast clamp which seem to work really well in the dog holes now that bench has this thickness (I also use these in a home made mft style top, but as it is not as thick, they grip a...

    Resaw blade advice

Nice website Derek. Makes me want to buy Veritas tools ... 🤤 Some progress on the work bench, just oiled it with walnut oil (had it lying around for salads, seems to be a drying oil). Thinned it with white spirit.

    Resaw blade advice

A good read and tip, thanks Derek. After thinking on what you wrote, I see that my resawing experience was kind of the same: The first 40cm of the board cut well pushing it against a tall fence. But after the first 40 cm it started to veer off and I switched to a point fence. Maybe repositioning...

    Resaw blade advice

OK, this evening was D-day! The saw I bought worked well (Flexback- 13mm wide - 0.65 thick -3tpi). (The board was now a bit narrower at a height of 16,5cm.) I did have to use point fence though. The most difficult part was following the middle line I drew. As predicted here on the forum , the...

    Resaw blade advice

Great example , thanks! Since the blade I'm going to be using will be new, I'll try with a big fence a some sort of tall feather block first. I've now flattened the edges of the board, and that narrowed it to 16,5cm wide (6.6"). First made a cut on the band saw and then I've used the jointer...

    Resaw blade advice

Remarkable, thanks for the info. Maybe it's the varitooth that makes the difference? My 5/8" Fastcutt blade stalls in the 7" beech I threw at it. Or my blade is getting blunt? On the other hand : it just has too many teeth to be cutting this wide a board I think. I'll certainly report back on...

    Resaw blade advice

Yes, you're right. And at the price I paid for the new blade, and the time I'm investing, I could just buy an extra board instead. But for me - next to cutting wood - this is a learning experience. The answers in this thread alone taught me a lot already. Same with the bench: a lot of people...

    Resaw blade advice

Why is a point fence better than the regular fence with an extra guide? Is it because the point fence alows more movement for the blade? But I'll have to actively guide the board along the point then, instead of keeping it just straight agianst a regular fence. Might be difficult since the...

    Resaw blade advice

I don't understand your last sentence in the quote Tom. I have a jointer/planer , so after resawing and before gluing, I'll be planing the sawn side.
