That's a great bargain ! I have the same machine and stand, they're superb.
So far I find scroll sawing quite a nervous activity, or perhaps I'm just scared of making a mistake.
Is there a specific tension you have to use for the blades ? I mean....how tight ?
To follow up, the set of 2 bearings from Pro Machine Tools arrived.
Great quality designed and finished in Austria, good price.
I found it tricky to fit the new bearings since the sprung washers exert a heap of force outwards.
The spindle kept moving toward the tailstock, so I used the Emco...
Hi,
I'd like to replace the headstock sealed bearings on my Emco Unimat 3, they are 40 years old and the casing is dented.
Does anyone know exactly what size they are and where to get them ?
I read this page already, but no reply from seller so far.

Well, I also have a green pattern maker's swivel vice that was made in Thailand, it was £90 but if it had been made as well as the original model in Germany I'd have paid double.
The Jet sander is nice to use, I think the two larger floor standing models would have been more useful.
Yes re-bobbin length, of course better to go for a bigger machine, but don't have £1,200 spare to fund that.
Bit disappointed with the spiral abrasive sleeves, they wear quickly sanding a 3 inch maple block.
Are there better suppliers of replacement sleeves ?
The 'thru the table' large dust...
Hi,
I have a Jet bench top spindle sander on the way, and wondered if anyone
knows if it's possible to extend the spindle lengths a bit ?

Someone had mentioned using reverse thread bar on his Delta, but then I saw that Jet do

If the infill is in place and you covered it with Danish oil then UVA lights aren't gonna elp.
1. Does it REALLY matter ?
If so, then I'd strip the Danish oil off with alcohol or Rustin's you know what then stain the wood
with some very strong instant coffee or similar, you could try Van Dyke...
'I'd address that first. '
Actually I'd prepared the cap perfectly on diamond plate so it contacted the blade 100 % and at the correct angle.
With the new design caps there's a much larger contact area which adds a lot of stability to the cutting edge
when compared to the old thin cap designs.
Regarding 'clogging', sometimes bits of dust etc get lodged between blade and blade iron, which is a pain.
I think the thinner iron cap on normal Stanley / Record planes is less rigid than the newer Stanley S.W.
Even if the iron cap fits the iron perfectly it's not gonna be as good a fit as...
Yes that's right and the knife work is the critical bit.
Usually for f holes I use a fret saw and very fine jeweller's blade (you can't see the teeth...) so perhaps the Hegner will be best suited to just getting outlines and scrolls done.
Thanks.
Hello,
Considering using a Hegner Multicut SE later in the year for cutting f holes on violins, and Cellos.
Not particularly challenging to do by hand but perhaps better by Hegner.
I'm new to scroll sawing, don't know what speeds best suit the various materials.
So what sort of blade is...
