    Getting rid of sawdust

No matter what you do with wood, once it is cut down it is adding carbon to the atmosphere. Burning it adds no more carbon to the atmosphere than mulching or leaving it to rot. There’s a really interesting book, about the use of wood as heat, called Norwegian Wood by Larrs Mytting. Don’t let the...

    Suggestions for future heating system

I very much agree with a lot of what you say there, the one thing I would add is that you have to factor in old age and the reduction in movement it brings. Everyone always complained that my parent’s (who were of the same mind as you are) place was cold but my parents were fine until their...

    Hello from Alan in Aylesbury

I had a lot of good times there too and was gutted to discover that the Manor was sold off. My grandparents used to live in Mytchett so walking on the ranges, along the canal and at Deepcut were all standard holiday fare as a kid. When at Gib and the manor I used to love walking around that area...

    Hello from Alan in Aylesbury

Ah, good old Gib Barracks, I used to work in Minley Manor but moved to Herefordshire in 89. As you say some beautiful walks on the training areas over there but confusing driving around there for me as it is both very familiar and totally unfamiliar at the same time.

    Hello from Alan in Aylesbury

I’m amazed to hear you say that. I used to live in Aldershot, work in Minley and had family in Camberley, Mytchett and Church Crookham but I can’t find many unchanged road routes and areas around there. So many of the military camps have been built on and some training areas too that I have to...

    BBC Scaremongering again

Spot on and I totally agree. It doesn’t seem to matter how much your “subscription” is with all the other suppliers, you always seem to have to pay extra to see the content you’re after or get it ad free.

    Hermes gone to the dogs?

Absolutely spot on. I used to dread Hermes but our previous and current drivers have been awesome. It’s been the same with all the others great service turned bad or vice versa when the drivers change. The main thing for me is how they then deal with lost or damaged items. In my experience...

    Woodworking Machine

Wow! With help and knowledgeable assistance like that, how can he fail!🤦‍♂️

    Thread dies, question.

You might be shocked at the price of ‘proper dies’ as you call them. The ones you have will be fine if you only use them occasionally. I had a cheap set all the years I worked on my cars and they always did the job fine. It was only once I started using them much more frequently that I purchased...

Anyone with big machinery here, willing to help??

Ah, I’ve just bought some 3mm rubber floor cover for my van (Rubber Flooring Garage Sheeting Matting Rolls 1.2M and 1.5M Wide X 3MM THICK) and have some off cuts that I could post to you if you’re interested. It’s very grippy, I put four hard plastic smooth bottomed boxes on it and did a 400...

Anyone with big machinery here, willing to help??

If you type “levelling castor wheels” into Amazon there is a good selection of heavy duty castors with very grippy levelling pads that don’t slip. I have them on my lathes and milling machines and once levelled they don’t move at all.

    Myford Planer Restoration

Would it be possible for me to get a scanned copy of those at all please. I am just downsizing to a PR11 and would really like to know as much as possible about the machine before I start.
