    Dissassembling Union Graduate for transportation

Well done, hope you enjoy it as much as I do mine. At least you were on the flat, mine initially went into a cellar workshop (in pieces), a lot easier than getting it out (again in pieces). Unfortunately it is still in bits 5 years later, waiting for the new workshop after our move to Spain, the...

Book recommendations for garden structure woodworking.

The M&T magazine looks interesting, think that could cover a lot of the areas he is interested in, thanks.

How many active turners remain in UKWorkshop ?

Not just at the moment but will be again soon after moving to Spain, just need to finish the workshop first. Well that’s my plan, the wife thinks I should finish the house first. Barry

    What did Santy bring?

Not strictly woodworking related but all the way from Chile, will be on its way eventually to the little place we've just bought in Spain to keep the weeds down in the summer when we're not allowed to use power tools because of the fire risk.

    Powering lathe from generator

Does anyone power their lathe by means of a generator? Have just dismantled my workshop before it all gets moved to Spain and was wondering if anyone has any experience of running a lathe off a generator. My setup was a Union Graduate with a 1hp 230v 3phase motor running off a Mitsubishi...

How to replace Motor Pully on Union Gradute Lathe?

I bought mine from a school, it was 3 phase with the original gryphon 400v motor and I think 3 pulley wheels. Never used it as it arrived, just did the conversion to vari-speed by fitting new 240v 3 phase motor and inverter. I'll check tomorrow when I can get to the workshop and have a look at...

How to replace Motor Pully on Union Gradute Lathe?

You should find the serial number stamped right at the outboard end of the bed (think on mine it's on the side nearest to you) and if you look it up here http://www.lathes.co.uk/harrisonwood/ you can find which year it was made, mine was made in 1961. Lots of other useful info on that site as...

December Woodturning Challenge - POST YOUR ENTRIES HERE

Mortar is apple I think, had some roughed out blanks that were not marked, pestle is beech. Wanted to create a mortar with a wide base to give stability and possible use one handed (cooks are usually doing more than one thing at once). Inside and outside were turned mounted in chuck mostly with...

    Union graduate lathe.

I paid £300 for mine, 400v 3 phase from a school, came with a few chisels and faceplates. Converted to 240 volt with new motor, inverter and vari speed controller. Probably stands me at around £6-700 not including chucks.
