    Sounds like you haven't cut the posts off yet. So if you can cut off the posts on "good" wood then "plan A" would be to get hold of a steel pole or stout wood and attach to the top of the post with chain or webbing.     Nicko I have been where you are and I would just make a couple of points. First go for quality steel. Second buy less not more until you know what sort of turning you want to focus on. So a small set from a recognised maker is the way to go but it really is a good idea to get your hands on them...

    Stooby Do you have an accurate parallel fence? if so why not just use a 45 degree protractor (or get somebody to make up a 45 degree blank) against it to ensure an accurate mitre? Failing that I think you need to work out why your mitre gage is inaccurate - does it need shims to correct...
