A 6" doesn't seem much dearer than a 5" one so quite tempted by a Makita BO6030.

Any comments? Will I regret one so big?

I recently replaced my 5" DeWalt with a 6" Metabo which has had a good reputation for years. I don't think you'll regret it but you may find the need for a smaller one later on. I have a DeWalt pad sander for the smaller jobs .

I’ve got the Mak BO6030. Its a great bit of kit but as with most sanders it’s performance is greatly improved with better abrasives. I’ve been using abranet recently which is probably the best I’ve tried so far.

6" is great until you're working overhead for hours when suddenly a nice light weight jobby seems incredibly attractive ie depends what you're doing. My Metabo 450 is great but it is a lump after a while when its not horizontal.
