Advice again please i wish to make a wooden something like the one in the picture ;So what wood do you recommend and how can i stop it from splitting

slow grown, left to dry in the round, acclimatized for months then cut from the middle of the log. I dowt that's had that sort of treatment though. more likely it's an end cut, thats going to split crack and move with time. enjoy the shakes, splits and cracks, it's what is so nice about wood.
 
Bizarrely dun elm mill are selling chopping boards that fit that exact bill. I was examining one for a good five minutes to convince myself it was wood. Finish was a little odd but likely you could refinish and repurpose.
