Stain removal from Marble -ideas?

We had ' Merry Christmas' gel letters on a marble fire surround backing sheet. Colour has leached into the marble. I assume 'gel' is short for gelatine therefore its an oil stain.

Tried bi-carb poultice for 24 hrs and then white spirit - waste of time on both counts.

Any thoughts?

No knowledge at all, but obviously you need to avoid anything acidic.

I find coconut oil good for removing stains and sticky residue. Maybe try something oily?

Ask at a good local tile supplier - they'll usually have something worth trying.

Good idea - I've just emailed a stone and marble historic building restoring company.

Sad to say, I THINK you may be stuffed - That's why the trend of marble kitchen worktops was very shortlived.

Marble is soft and porous. Granite is hard (but porous).

Stone worktops are a bad idea!!
