Hello,

I've found this nice spokeshave some years ago at a German flea market and wonder about it's maker. It has a sticker on one handle with the drawing of (presumably) a thistle and the name "ROBINSON HALL, SHEFFIELD". The other handle is marked with the same name:

http://www.holzwerken.de/museum/profilhobel/schabhobel3.phtml

I got only two hits with Google:
- A trade catalogue in a Sheffield library of the Robinson Hall Ltd: Thistle Brand tools from 1964
- An entry in "The Foundry Trade Journal (1942)":
"Robinson Hall - Edge tool manufacturers, 23, Bingham Park Road, Sheffield"

Does anybody have more information about this maker?

Thanks,
Wolfgang in Munich/Germany

Well, did you find out anything about this spokeshave in 10 years? :D I have bought the exact same one the other day.

There's a tiny bit more in Tweedale's Directory. He shows an old advert which claims that the firm was founded in 1912 although not appearing in trade directories until the 1940s. They disappeared from directories in the mid 70s.
The ad shows a marking knife, a marking gauge, a chisel, a mortice gauge, a tri-square, a screwdriver and a cold chisel.
