I have settled on a groove up the middle for the spindles, because I couldn't see a way of doing individual mortices nicely at an angle.
That's what I did, with a spacer glued between each baluster. Out of sight, tidy, makes it very easy to fit them as the last step after fitting hand rails.

Have you had chance to have a play yet Mike?

I'm grabbing an hour here and an hour there at the moment, Coley. I've got all the pieces made except the handrails and the newels. I've started fixing the treads and risers in place for marking up for the joint between the risers and the brackets. It's a head-scratcher.......

You'll have nearly finished yours, no doubt! :) (Especially if it's straight strings, not cut strings).

Stairs get the cogs turning. I'm sure you've got it sussed [THUMBS UP SIGN]

Bloody nervewracking as two trials on scraps had splintered. I soaked the wood in a wet towel for 3 hours, gently adding more and more pressure, until I was fairly confident it would work.......then held my breath and dived in.

Phwoar, luvly jubbly ! Nicely done.
