I've been working on my hand tool skills. (After restoring lots of tools).
After about a year of mucking around and lots of trial and error it seems like I am finally turning the corner.

So I thought I would post a couple of projects.

I am working towards making a guitar neck so thought I would try and get the scarf neck joimt sorted.

There seem to be lots of tutorials usong power tools, not many using hand tools.

So cutting a 13 degree (ish) angle to create an invisible joint was trickier than I thought.

This was my 3rd attempt:

And the other side:

I am pretty pleased the only issue being camping which meant the first picture shows glue where I should have clamped on that side as well!

The plane build came around as I have lots of scruffy wood.

So started to plane it square then diacovered th EnglishWooWorker plane build and an old blade and chip breaker.

So I started with something like this:

Which turned into this:

The blank I started with only yielded one side piece. As a result of doing this all on a whim.

Next step was cutting the angles and glue it all together hence:

Once the glue had dried I realised that the top face wasn't flat so I decided to plane it flat. Which started well until a couple of pieces aroundth screw relief broke off

I'll sort a picture of the break out.

Lesson learnt though, I should have made sure it wad flat befoe I glued it up and chiseled out the screw relief.

Anyway I then checked to see if the blade would sit flat and there as a little wiggle room, resulting in this:

Good fit, flat and room to tweak.

The onto the wedge which is done just need some pics, which I will upload a little while later.

Wedge made, I just need to trim it to size:

So I thought I should test it to see how it turned out:

Which I am rather pleased with. Not sure about putting a handle on or not. As I have other things to sort out I suspect it will be a while until I sort out a handle.
