I can't remember posting this before but Dalboy nudged my conscience to post something.
Now and then someone turns up (no pun) with a piece of wood they think you might like. In this case it was some largish branches of a local casuarina known as buloke (or bulloak). The drier the area the better the grain and the heavier the wood. The best stuff won't float. I promised that he could have a couple of egg cups for him and his wife.
I've never made an eggcup before so I went the shed with an egg and gave it a go. The taller one has a silky oak base (grevillea robusta) formerly part of the floor boards at a local drill hall.
I can't say I'm completely happy but it is a beautiful timber.
