I've just been to the market and saw the longest "tenon" saw I've ever seen - I didn't get the chance to measure it but the blade must have been two feet long. Steel backed, with four chromed screws it had a pattern on the handle very similar to a newer Disston D8. Quite clean but no etching that I could see. I'll try to get a picture next week if it's still there. It was up for £15 .......... I can't buy more tools, I haven't room now. :D Is there a name for this type of saw?
 
Yes.

Mitre box saw, or more accurately, miter box saw, as they were more popular in the USA with their trim carpentry.

I've got one, but have not needed to use it yet.

Difficult to store, as are the bulky mitre boxes. :wink:
