Give someone a Present and you end up getting charged with doing 'just a few more'

Just one of several projects on the go that entail multiple repeats so may be a day or two before they get finished.

Lost the blank prep & boring images, those tasks were done a couple of weeks ago so that the wood could stabilise a bit more.

But took these today which may be of interest.

Still a few sessions left to do.

Turn up central Spindles
Turn up Lids
Turn up Knobs
Turn up Base sealing blanks
Glue Up Assembly
Seal and apply finish

May be a day or two before any more progress.

I believe that I have seen one of these finished by yourself before and it is great to see the work involed in doing so. Following with interest Chas

Yes have done a few Derek, and in all honesty have reworked a few for folks where they had dried out and distorted over time. Think this may be the last batch constructed this way, have a couple of ideas to remove the tight dimensioning required on the innards and where things can go astray with time. This design started after seeing some made elsewhere that had the disadvantage of being easy to spill contents if lid lifted too far.

Got an hour or two to turn the Central Spindles today.

And attach the Pistons, using the Chuck jaws to ensure they are square to spindle.

Trimmed off the excess spindle and sealed assembly.

It's a case of snatching time when I can at the moment Derek, not enough hours in the day, weather brightening up has meant most of this afternoon has been spent wandering around the local valley to get some exercise & fresh air.
Chatting with a neighbour tidying up one of the field walls was a welcome break to gather some breath on the way back after steep climb up his field.

I'm good at dropping hints to tractor and Landover owners these days.

Managed to get the Tops turned this morning.
Turn up underside to suit Body recess & rough form/part off Top surface
Cs10.jpg

Finish top surface, using tailstock proximity for security because light clamping might let go.

Slowly is very much the progress I'm afraid Derek, local events and un planned for off piste project diversions have very much interrupted the wood turning flow, frustrating when even the simple basic stuff takes forever to get done.

Making final bits.
Cs13.jpg

As it's desirable to have cross grain for the base discs scrap pieces are stacked with some hot melt around the edges.

All that remained was to glue up, finish off base.

and a final polish.

Ready to go.
