Has anyone any ideas ? I have an Axminster BS450N bandsaw. I didn't use it for about six months last year due to a back problem (mine!).

When starting it runs very very slowly and then trips out. I have tried a couple of times and then it gets up to speed and works again ? Has anyone had this or suggest the possible problem/ solution ?

Thanks Geoff

You've probably done this already - remove the blade and see if it runs ok with no load.
Also check that the wheels turn freely with no blade.

With power disconnected and doors open.

Slacken off blade and drive belt tension,
Does motor spin freely by hand.
Do both upper and lower drive wheels turn freely by hand.

That will eliminate bearing seizures due to rust or debris.

With drive belt slackened off does motor start with a snap or does it slowly gather speed. (start/run capacitor check)

while its starting to try to run does it make humming noises?
If the other steps dont work i would replace the capacitor on the motor (they are not repairable).
