I am putting together a table of timber yards, with information from members who have actually visited the yards. Can you please help with information about CJ Clark? You can see the timber yards that are already included in the timber yard link below.

Are they hobby friendly?

Can you self-select or is it by appointment?

Will they deliver?

Do they have online ordering?

Are prices displayed at the yard?

Do they sell domestic hardwoods?

Do they sell other hardwoods?

Do they sell softwoods?

Do they sell manufactured boards?

Do they sell turning blanks?

Are they a one-man-band or a small, medium or large yard?

Will they cut to length to fit in your vehicle?

Do you have any comments?

Thanks for your help,
Neil

Apart from having a reputation for being a good, local, family firm, I haven't used them so can't answer any specifics.
Because of their situation in the middle of town, having to share delivery road with a supermarket & poor parking, the entrance to the yard can occasionally get blocked.

Hi Nev
I have used them a bit but....

Its really a trade place for sheets etc - they do a bit of hardwood and can order stuff for you (which they get from Timbmet - don't get me started on them)
So not very hobby friendly
Difficult to self-select
They can deliver
You can't order online
NO prices displayed
Some domestic hardwoods
None exotic
Lots of softwood and manufactured boards
No turning blanks
Medium sized yard
You can cut to size yourself or they will charge you to do it
I rarely use them now

On the other hand, Eynsham Sawmills is where I get almost all of my hardwood. They have a kiln and have lots of oak, sycamore, walnut, cherry, cedar, beech etc etc - i.e. all home grown. You can spend hours in there with a tape, small plane and moisture meter to get exactly the boards you need
So very hobby friendly
Easy to self-select
They can deliver -
No on line
NO prices displayed
Most domestic hardwoods
None imported
Softwood and green oak
No turning blanks
Medium sized yard
You can cut to size or they will

Hope that helps
Mark
