Stain For Cherry

Does anyone know what stain to use on cherry to give it that rich red colour?

Please don't stain cherry, it's a beautiful wood and doesn't need you "helping" it (and be thankful I said please). After a little while the UV in sunlight will darken it, which you can slow down by applying UV inhibiting finishes. But, sheesh, why would you want to? I dunno, what's next? What's the best paint to use on walnut?!

Just a quick note

If you have to fill cherry , cherry filler is a bright orange colour DON'T lighten it by mixing it with white filler. If you do it will look lovely when it leaves the workshop, but when the customers piece has been sat in sunlight for a few weeks, the filled area will show up like a dogs........

You are better off using a dye on cherry if you want to add color. I prefer to use shellac with color added. Amber shellac on cherry or garnet gives a wonderful warm color to the wood.
