Rooting around my workshop for something else, found my box of plane spares, squirreled together over the years. Chances of my using them are pretty slim - as they aren't regular wearing parts. They include a couple of brand new complete frogs, several new cast adjuster yokes, brass adjuster wheels, beech rear handles and various unmarked bits that someone might recognise. Rather than their sitting there gathering dust, I'd like to offer them on the forum for reasonable value, but problem is I've no idea what that might be, short of trawling Ebay and the like. So first off, if any plane afficionados has a need for anything that sounds as if it might be in there, pm me and we can see what might transpire.

i have a big no 6 i think which i need bits for, unfortunatley it's in scotland and i'm in france. i'll see if i can get my dad to dig it out and have a look

If you have any left over after forum members have had a go, you might consider donating them to Tools With A Mission (TWAM). They refurbish tools and send them to help tradesman set up in Africa. Planes are a staple for them. They are well organised, and distribute spare parts to their local sheds where volunteers refurbish the tools. I did a bit at my local shed in Kenilworth (till my fingers gave out with tendon issues), where they specialise on No 4 planes and hold stocks of spares of these.

Scotland's a bit place, so I'm guessing the chance of your dad being within easy reach of Aberdeen is pretty small!

That's a nice idea, MusicMan. Local Rotary has a collection for Tools for Self Reliance, so it would make sense to give anything left over to their next one, which is usually in April. Always try to give them something, but usually end up also paying them more than they ask for an interesting item. The Spiers coffin smoother that came that way is one of my favourite tools!
