argh ~@!% it - i dropped my new makita bo6050 random sander - it still works but there's a 'noise' which evidently is the shaft lock - i can't get the pad off to see whats what - does anyone have any idea/experience of hhow to remove the pad?
any help will be much appreciated - all the best S

I don't have that exact model - I have the smaller one. But on mine, there are three screws in the middle of the pad that allow you to remove it

Coincidentally I received delivery of the same sander only yesterday.

To remove the pad:
First turn the sanding mode knob anticlockwise to forced rotation (ensure it clicks into place)
Then hold in the spindle lock button while unscrewing the pad anticlockwise (shouldn't need any tools - the friction of the palm of your hand should be enough to unscrew)

The spindle lock won't engage if the sander's not in forced rotation mode.

If still no joy then let me know and I'll take a closer look at my sander.

Hope this helps!
Mark
