Is this motor Ok for my Myford ML8

I've just been given a 1500 Watt x 4500rpm motor to replace the 3phase motor as fitted to my ML8.
As I understand it 1500w equates to 2h.p., so I would assume thats man enough, but what is your thoughts on the rpm please.
The motor was salvaged from a damaged Clark tablesaw.

It will be way too fast and it'll howl like a banshee. It may well be rated intermittent as well.

Thank you for that I did wonder about the rpm, there wasn't a data plate on the motor so the details were taken of the body of the machine, I half though it was a bit too quick hence the question. The other alternative is a largish 1/2 HP motor that trundles round at 1425, does that have enough oomph?

That's the usual speed for a lathe motor. 1/2hp you might find a bit small if you're using the lathe at it's limits, but for most jobs it'll be fine. (I had an ML8 for 40 years). You'll get in the habit of keeping your tools sharp if nothing else - it'll make a difference if you do largeish bowls.
