HVLP chip extractor

So I need a HVLP extractor for my PT (Clarke CPT1000). The PT has a Dust Port Diameter of (id/od) 68.5/76 mm.

I've been looking on machine mart at the Clarke CDE7B https://www.machinemart.co.uk/p/cde7b-dust-extractor/ but it doesn't come with hose or adapters. Firstly, would anyone recommend against this extractor or are they all pretty much the same around that price point? Secondly, there is the Clarke hose pack which you buy separately (https://www.machinemart.co.uk/p/dust-ex ... ssory-kit/) but as that's 100mm hose, I assume I'll need an adaptor to fit it to my PT. For the life of me, I can't find one that has the right diameters, any suggestions?

Or should I just go for a different product which comes with everything? Happy to spend up to around £300 all included.

P/T's usually need circa 750- 1000cfm or around 1500m3hr in order to efficiently extract the waste. If your use is light then you might get away with less.
Usually you need to match the extractor capacity to the manufacturer's specified extraction requirement.

I'm not sure what the PT extraction requirement is to be honest, I can't find reference to one in the manual (https://www.clarkeservice.co.uk/manuals2/cpt1000.pdf).

Then maybe take a guess. A 10" P/T is mid range. Is your use heavy or light? If light 600- 750cfm (1000 to 1250m3/hr) will be good if heavier maybe 850cfm or above(1400m3/hr or above)
The other problem you will have is moving 750cfm through a 63mm duct might be very difficult.

the 63mm is the built in extractor hood for the PT, not much can be done about that sadly! See how I get on I guess. How's best to fix the hose to it?

Maybe it's just me, but I don't consider any dust collection system with a 3/4 HP motor as "heavy duty". For about the same amount of money as the Record Power C3000, you can buy the Fox F50-843 system, which is rated at 3HP:

A hardware store should have rubber reducers for storm drain pipe that will reduce the 100mm hose to the diameter you need.

I don't disagree that you can get more power for a similar price point. It's just I'm not especially looking for a heavy duty extractor as this is just for my home workshop. I haven't got much space so the Fox suggested would be a bit too big for me I think. I've only got about 12m² space so that extractor would take up a huge portion of the space (0.84m²). Plus it seems a bit overkill as I'm just using it for my mid-range PT currently, my other bits (CPMS, table saw, hand power tools) will be using with my Makita VC2012L dust extractor.

Fair enough. The RP might work for the short run connected directly to your J/P, and I would still look for the rubber reducers at a hardware store.

However, if you are ambitious, you can buy the Fox system and make a better dust collection system by converting it to a two-stage system using a cyclone or Thien separator. My basement shop is about 20m², and I did this with a Bernardo 3HP blower salvaged from a unit that is very similar to the Fox system.

If it's of any help at all, I've found making hose adaptors very easy indeed. Thick good ply (double thickness if req, usually yes) hole saw to suit the OD, then the scroll saw (or nearest diameter drill of whatever size is nearest) for the ID.

In that particular case the adaptor was for DE on a scroll saw, but that doesn't matter.

MikeK - Looks like a nice setup you have. I would be more ambitious if I had more space but currently I don't sadly. Hopefully will move somewhere bigger eventually with more space for a nice workshop, not just a tiny single garage.
