A friend bought this curiosity at a car boot sale and wondered what it is. We haven't found an answer yet so I thought I'd pose the question on here. Does anyone have the foggiest idea what this is or how it was used? There's been a suggestion that the shiny, machined end would have had something attached to it - but that's about it as far as useful suggestions go. (And please don't say 'it's a pencil' - done to death!).

Any help will be very much appreciated - it's driving us nuts!

Cheers

The short metal part to the RHS of the handle looks similar to a lathe chuck key, or I think that's what it's called. But the other end idk.
My bet is lathe/machine tool for making adjustments of some sort.
Sorry, am not really a turner.

The rod looks like those indents are uni-directional, a bit like a rasp.
My first thought was some kind of reamer for weapon gas parts.

But that hook at the back end looks like purposed shaped for levering something while braced on a rim, like a paint can.

Some kind of edging tool for leatherwork, or something a farrier would use?

Thanks for the replies. Still nothing definitive but a couple of new suggestions which I'll pass on.

Cheers

Looks like a laptop computer keyboard with a touchpad mouse to me.

Looks to me like a cleaning rod of some sort.

A couple questions:
Does anything else happen when the lever on the right is moved?
Is the bit on the tip of the rod a screw head? Can it be removed from the rod?
What is the small bit on he top of the handle - screw, plunger (spring loaded or not)?

I've asked for more detailed photos and passed on your questions GLFaria - let you know when I hear back.

The right hand end looks like a hoof pick, perhaps the other end is to take a tooth file?

Here's some more pictures. Apparently the hook flips round and spring locks into place.

Can't help thinking I've seen the likes of this before.
Observations include the ability for that notched end to pull/push,does it rotate?
The fold out section is reminiscent of an accessory on a Coachmans pocket tool.
The same part could be used as a release key when inserted into sprung mechanism.
Where abouts is it, could we get a chance to see it at the Stanley sale this week?
What about knitting and weaving industry?
If it's available do please let me know as it's just the sort of intriguing thing I'd have in my display at vintage shows
Cheers
Andy
