Elektra Beckum KGS saws fine tuning.

Since the fence is almost impossible to fine tune sitting in its slotted grove, is there a way of adjusting the cam locator.?
The alternative and possibly easiest would be to make a new fence not sitting in this slotted grove.
How does the quality of the current Metabo variants compare with the original saws.?
Any help would be appreciated.
