Another couple of options. [a] couple of lift-off hinges one side and toggle clamp other. Dearer. fixed studs to frame and wingnuts to compress the seal. Cheap as chips. ??tried to edit as not Bold but no joy. Alex.

What size drill bit for octagonal Oak dowels.

Yes , I'm not a timber framer by profession but I have built a workshop and currently cutting joints for a garden room/office thing. 6x6, 6x8,6x10 oak timbers. My first couple of pegs were too tapered and didn't pull in enough. Replaced with others and fine since. If I'm going through 6inch beam...

What size drill bit for octagonal Oak dowels.

Only the first part needs to be Tapered, to find the Off-set hole. The rest should be tight-ish in order to keep the tenon pulled in. Not too tight or danger of splitting the beam. Kris Harbour has a bit of a Youtube episode about pegs that he had to adjust because the pegs he bought were not...

    Registration plates

I have "stamped" metal plates. The letters / numbers are raised slightly (like USA, ?). Brought them because other drivers keep breaking the perspex ones which is a fail. Had several MOT's all ok. Alex.

Sorby vs Henry Taylor Framing Chisels

I own several Sorby's: 1.5" framing, 1" corner-framing, 3-3/8" slick. Also a 2" no.284 registered (got a good cash deal). They haven't been subjected to years of abuse but several months of intense use over the years. Steel is excellent. Handles are good. Not broken them, but then I haven't...

    Planer safety advice

I believe that Johnny B is meaning the belt/pulley as a whole is "dicey". When the photo is viewed in close up it appears to be newish as writing easily readable. Most guarding is a metal frame and metal mesh to allow cooling air to easily reach the motor. Would also be resistant to a broken...

Who is in and who is out?

My basic comment was to suggest that the vast day-to-day buying/selling that "we the peoples of Europe" do over the years is more than the governments of Europe spend. Will the UK's MEP's be out of a job as well. Such a shame. PaulM. I'm definitely vote leave. Alex.
