Buying advice - multitool, random orbital sander and router

Just to buck the trend a little. I would definately go for a cordless multi-tool. Invariably I end up using it when things are in an awkward spot, the cord just makes it that much easier. If you can spring for the makita brushless I don't think you will regret it. As far as the sander and...

Would Anyone like to turn 4 spindles for me?

Thanks Richard, as you say, somewhat hidden! I have tried a couple of likely sounding people and will see if they are interested.

Would Anyone like to turn 4 spindles for me?

I did think of that Phil, but if possible we would like the transition from square to round. Also My bead turning is not that good so I would need a lot of practice to get 4 legs looking even vaguely similar.

Would Anyone like to turn 4 spindles for me?

As part of an ever growing project we want to make a new cabinet to take our TV and all the associated bits. We are very much into Arts and Crafts and mostly have period pieces, strangly though there don't seem to be very many TV units about! We have found a peice of furniture we like but apart...

Post a photo of the last thing you made

We have all been there with broken drilles/screws. I have cut the heat off a scre and super glued it to the hinge to cover up my misshap.

Nickers or spurs for Stanley 39 Planes?

I think Cobbs has it. A search for 'Stanley 39 spurs' brings up a few Ebay listngs.

    Which CNC Router?

You don't mention how big your workpieces are, but I would have thought you would be better off looking at a CNC mill rather than a router. There a ex school and college Denford and Boxford mills regularly on Ebay. Many are good solid machines I personally like the look of some of the Denford...

Can you make a DC motor run more quietly?

It is unusual for the motor to be too noisy, it is usually the gears and you have tried the ony practical solution with the grease. I would suggest looking at a different motor, perhaps with a better build quality. A google for 'silent DC geared motor' brings up a lot of options.

3 piece loft ladder, how to lubricate?

Before you spray on the PTFE I would give the surfaces a good clean. As others have said if it has had grease or other 'wet' lubricants dirt will have turned it into a mild grinding paste.

    Stopcock or Gate Valve?

As others have said, use a stop cock it is what it is made for. Strip out all the redundant valves as they may leak. If you go to a 'proper' plumbers merchant rather than one of the sheds you should be able to get a good quality valve - Peglar are fine but they have committed the cardinal sin...

a new era of low cost, accessible and efficient heating?

I agree, it is interesting. I sincerly hope it is as good as it claims. Unfortunately as others have stated the website comes accross as snake oil and for me as a designer I want to see hard figures that I can plug into my calclulations. Until I see these I for one cannot in all concience...

a new era of low cost, accessible and efficient heating?

Hi Jacob, I agree with where you are coming from if the system is entirely radiant. However thay state that it is 50/50 radiant and thermal, and that the surface temperature will not exceed 45ºC. This means it is producing a significan amount of thermal energy which is going to try and heat...

a new era of low cost, accessible and efficient heating?

As a heating designer for the last 40 years, I too am sceptical. The website is heavy on promise but gives absolutely no actual information on the system. It states it is safe as it runs at 24V, however my simple off the cuff calculations show that this would require quite alarming Current...
