Header for top plate and support

Span on double header sounds ok. The number of studs seems excessive by a factor of two. I presume the window doesn't go to the floor so you have bracing to prevent racking.

    Any ideas

As above, when the power is switched off on a section of high voltage line the section can act as a capacitor and hold a lethal charge. This must be earthed before anyone works near or on the line.

Fixing lean to shed ledger board

I've just had a look at the angle bracket website, from the look of them and the number of nail holes I doubt they will meet regs for building, you should check with whoever is doing your building regs drawings or the inspector.

Fixing lean to shed ledger board

You don't want the board making a step in your ceiling so go small, as it will be fixed every 600-900mm it doesn't need to be deep and c16 would be ok. Use standard hangers and notch the rafters to suit ,angled hangers are not readily available.

    Proposed workshop build

Concrete is not as simple as it seems and a quick online read probably isn't that helpful. I'd get back to the supplier (who probably does know what they're talking about) and ask them why they specced gen 3 and what your concerns are.

Kitchen worktop - am I doing it right?

As users know it's essential let the cutter stop rotating before lifting the router or you can nick the jig. It's possible that someone has used another jig to open out your jig to remove nicks before selling it. It has a very square edged opening.

    Glass panel in Gazebo roof

It may be best to not have a frame. Put 5mm security glazing tape on the rafters and lay the glass on that add greenhouse style glass clips to secure the bottom edge then use mastic or mastic tape to fix the bitumen tiles directly to the glass. Alternatively use a rubber seal and glazing bar of...

    Bolting together 2 x 2 by 4s

If you use acoustic hangers you can use less timber such as 3x2 and save headroom,if it's really tight use metal acoustic bars which are only 40mm deep. There's plenty of proven off the shelf solutions for sound reduction and they will all work better than making something up yourself. Using the...

And people will go on holiday where?

    Anybody own a holiday let?

The rates you see online aren't the rate you will regularly get. You can minus 16% for their commission ,then consider that multiple days will usually have discounts attached. Would you pay 1500 per night?

    Anybody own a holiday let?

Like anything the amount you get out will depend on the effort you put in. If an agency does everything they will take most of the money. Also be aware that the agencies interest is their business not yours, in a dispute they will favour their customer with your money .We do have a four bedrooms...

    Home library

I can recommend tonk strip as well, ironmongery direct have a selection. I would also use 18mm or even 24 mm plywood for the shelves instead of 12mm then you can reduce the lipping size and give it a lighter look.

    Aluminium tower advice please

A steel or galvanized steel scaffold tower will be much cheaper new or second hand. Unless you are regularly moving it or wheeling it about indoors then aluminum doesn't really have any advantages , mortar and aluminum don't get on well. Depending on how uneven the ground is you can just pack up...

    Workshop construction advice

Steel portal fra would seem to be the way to go, cheap, quick and the structural engineering is well understood. If you want to go all timber there are balloon frames barns in the West Coast of America which use small timbers to build massive structures , though getting a structural engineer who...

    Software for planning application

Pencil and graph paper. Sellotape to a board and Sellotape tracing paper over that so it can't move. Once it's done in pencil and you've corrected all your mistakes you can go over it with rotoring pen.

    Workshop (Garage) Door Build

Good advice above. I will add that I think the braces are a bit shallow angled,a single brace at a steeper angle will hold it square better.

    How good are Howdens kitchens?

I would say Diy kitchens and Howdens are the same quality. Howdens are more expensive, try to oversell and have a policy of not disclosing the prices. Trade like them because they give one big quote for everything you need which you can pass on to the customer with your price for fitting, then...

Making internal doors - Tulip Wood Vs Sycamore

Your drawing shows a Victorian style with fielded panel, a fairly common type, most manufacturers will do one. Before ordering I would check the weight, some doors are very light and they feel cheap. I would expect to pay around £120 for a primed door maybe less as you're getting lots.

Making internal doors - Tulip Wood Vs Sycamore

Unless you're making specials there's no point making doors. You can buy good quality standard doors for a reasonable price.

Wood stove: Insulating above the closure plate, is it common? Good idea?

Insulating with vermiculite or expanded clay round flexible liners will keep the flue gas temperature up and give a better draw. With lots of clay and concrete liners it's part of the system . I would definitely add something, even stuffing some rockwool up from underneath should help.
